Restrictions On Motor Carriers Delivering Propane And Home Heating Oil Temporarily Lifted Due To Forecasted Cold
Declaration expires at midnight on Jan. 21, 2025
CONCORD, N.H. – Today, New Hampshire Department of Safety Commissioner Robert L. Quinn signed an emergency declaration temporarily lifting restrictions on hours of service for motor carriers that deliver propane and oil as heating sources for homes and businesses in the state.
“The National Weather Service is forecasting low wind chill values of zero to 10 below tonight in parts of New Hampshire, and low temperatures in the teens through the weekend,” Commissioner Quinn said. “Permitting drivers to work additional hours will help meet urgent needs during the state’s ongoing shortage of commercial drivers, including the timely delivery of critical supplies to keep Granite Staters warm and safe.”
The emergency declaration temporarily allows certain commercial drivers to work extended hours, if they’re able and asked to do so.
Motor carriers who choose to operate under the exemption cannot require or allow a fatigued or ill driver to get behind the wheel. Drivers for carriers that choose to operate under the emergency declaration must have a printed copy of the declaration in their possession.
Other regulations specific to the use of controlled substances and alcohol, and size and weight requirements, remain in effect until the declaration expires at midnight on Jan. 21.
